William Generett Jr., Esq. is the inaugural President and CEO of Urban Innovation21. He is responsible for the overall management of the organization’s public private partnership and its work to connect our region’s successful innovation economy to underserved communities. William’s responsibilities include the following: developing a shared vision for the organization, defining and implementing programs, communicating the organization’s vision and economic model to local, regional and national stakeholders and fundraising. William and the Urban Innovation21 team have been recognized locally and nationally for their groundbreaking work to connect underserved communities to the region’s successful innovation economy.

William’s career includes that of an entrepreneur, nonprofit executive, corporate executive, attorney and teacher. From 2007 – 2009 William worked as the part time Executive Director of the Hill House Economic Development Corporation, where he led the organization’s effort to engage in successful social entrepreneurial ventures. William was the founder and president of a non medical homecare company, ComForcare Senior Services Allegheny County (ComForcare), where he managed forty employees who provided services to hundreds of clients throughout Allegheny County. In 2007 William sold Comforcare and it is now one of the largest home care companies of its kind in the United States. William served as the Vice President of legal staffing and recruiting for one of the nation’s largest legal staffing agencies, Compliance Inc., in the Washington D.C. William taught English for one year in Shimabara, Japan through the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. For six years, William practiced corporate and real estate law in various capacities as a law clerk, associate and senior associate with a law firm in Atlanta, Georgia.

William is a native of Pittsburgh and is a Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude graduate of Morehouse College where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Spanish. William was the recipient of the Emory University Presidential Scholarship, a full tuition merit based scholarship to attend Emory University School of Law. William received his Juris Doctorate from Emory University and is licensed to practice law in the states of Pennsylvania and Georgia. William is a very active member of the Pittsburgh Community where he serves on several nonprofit boards and advisory committees including the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Pittsburgh Mercy Health Systems, Pittsburgh Economic and Industrial Development Corporation (Commercial Lending Arm of the City of Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority), The Green Innovators, Phipps Conservatory, Innovation Works and Renewable Manufacturing Gateways Corporation. William is a member of Sigma Pi Phi fraternity, Rho Boulé chapter.
